FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between 1st cutting and 2nd cutting hay?

Second cutting Is what most people give their pets. It’s the go to hay for adult animals. This hay has more leaves on the stems. The stems are thinner, the protein and fat levels are a bit higher, and crude fiber is a bit lower.
First cutting is usually more stemy then leaf. And it usually has a higher fiber content, and a lower protein and fat content. Owners usually give this hay for animals who may need to lose weight or really struggle with recurring GI stasis.
Of course it also depends on what your rabbit prefers and what your vet recommends.
